ABOUT BEFORE YOU GO

Started by me. Made for you.

A first generation college graduate, millennial, eldest sister, dog mom & book lover.

I enjoy family and being at home. I’ll admit it. I want to be at home. But, homes come with clutter. Tackling physical clutter subconsciously feeds my ego. Besides the joy of piles diminishing, downsizing photos and documents has won 1st place. Turning the tangible & cluttersome to digital and nearly invisible. Your office could be an office (what a thought). This is also coming from a person who gets secretly intrigued by Excel battles. The OoOs and AwWs from data being interred into a cell, really gets my gears going.

Dedicated this to my grandparents. Because without you, where would we be… without all of the stuff left behind? So before you go, started them and ends with you. After most visits home or to my grandparents I’ll hear something to the effect of , “Before you go, can you check (fill in the blank here), it’s broken.” -or- “Before you go, can you (fill in the blank)?” If the answer is no, it is seldom heard, but my eyes roll inadvertently.

My mom, because she asked if I could scan her pictures for her. While I only have a flat bed scanner, it only fits 3 pictures/ scan, which then have to be cropped and rotated. My overall goal was to just get her a digital frame that has all of these photos on it. This project alone, has been a gnawing one. Sitting for hours going through 60+ years of photos & knowing they have what seems like the entire perimeter of their bedroom covered in paperwork that has yet to be delved into. They aren’t hoarders, they just don’t know how to do it on their own & I don’t want them swindled.

To my great friends Chloe, Amy, Jess & Tina who call me when they need help (moving, organizing, cleaning, sick or hurt) they know who to call & who will be there. I’ll take off work & travel the country, because I am wanted and needed.

Don’t other companies do this: Yes. But, I don’t know about potential competition or how they work. Some places probably have you ship your precious items. The clench and pray method doesn’t sit well with me. Probably the same for you too. You’ve sent mail before, right?  Where are they scanning these photos to? What do they do with the hard copies? All great questions that I don’t have the answer to. If you’re serious about getting this done, I’ll assume you’ve done more research than me.

What I have learned: Scanning photos forces you to face the fact that everyone who is here now, isn’t going to be here forever. While we’re here and well,  we could plan on organizing our lives now, so that others don’t have to do it for us. I’ve scanned pictures of past friends and family and wish they could have done what I am doing for my family.

TDLD: clean, organize, scan, post, sell, & things in between.

My objective: Take your place and make it yours. Starting with scanning & then whatever else pops up along the way. No subscriptions, its a one and done deal. For you to keep forever.

Can I sell this?: Yes. How do you want to go about it? Let’s talk. Ebay? Garage sale? (I don’t do estate sales. I can help you find someone who could help this process) It depends.

Can you label this: No, -respectfully- I don’t want to sift through your personal paperwork. Keep in mind, you will want to have your things labeled & if you don’t know how, I can teach you or you ask someone else to do that for you. It is time consuming. It is repetitive. Leaving things unlabeled is the exact same thing as having piles of paper around; one is less visible and one is tangible. Pick your poison.

What Should be scanned: Photos - ALL OF THEM & Most documents. (Medical, wills, cars, house, insurance, bills. Any and all documents) *

What can’t be scanned:

*You have a business* & you have old documents. From what I understand, business must keep hard, tangible files & because I don’t want to mess that up for you. I won’t scan business documents. If that’s a risk you’re willing to take please check the “I can do it myself special”. & Books, ©copyright is a thing & libraries are important.
